Shanahan’s time with the Redskins may be over due to conflict with Snyder

Redskins coach Mike Shanahan and team owner Dan Snyder have apparently had a shaky relationship from the beginning, but with disappointing performances from the team week after week, and growing tension between the two men, Shanahan may soon be gone for good.

For many fans, the Redskins’ 45-10 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs was the tip of the ice berg, but Shanahan’s day would get even worse as Snyder became angry over an ESPN report published the same day. The report mentioned that Shanahan had considered leaving after last season because Snyder’s close relationship with quarterback RGIII was hurting the team’s morale.

In a news conference after the game, Shanahan then refused to address his relationship with Snyder. “It’s not the right time or place to talk about my relationship with Dan Snyder,” He said. “Or it’s not the right time and place to talk about something that happened a year ago. I’ll get a chance to talk to Dan at the end of the season. I’ll give some viewpoints from me, and I’m sure he’ll give me his thoughts on what direction we’ll go. And so we’ll communicate that at the proper time.”

Snyder saw Shanahan’s comments as a blunt snub, and now it seems that the coach will be fired by the end of the season. There are even reports that the team may withhold money from Shanahan’s contract after firing him. A source close to the matter reported though that there were “a number of things on the table.”
