Al Davis, owner of the Oakland Raiders, died Saturday at age 82. The cause of death was not immediately known. Davis led a celebrated career that spanned six decades. He began as a line coach at Adelphi College in New York, going on to coach at The Citadel, Southern California and for the Los Angeles Chargers. He began coaching the Raiders in 1963.

In 1966, Davis played a role in the merging of the American Football League and the National Football League. He was inducted to the Football Hall of Fame in 1992.
