ESPN report has said that it looks very possible that Penske Racing made a deal with Front Row Motorsports to help Joey Logano secure a place in the Chase for the Cup. It was discovered in Front Row driver David Gilliland’s radio history that a request was made to let Logano pass. According to the report from the Associated Press, the radio conversation went as follows:
Spotter: We’ve got the big dog and all his cronies.
Frank Kerr: Travis [Penske Racing competition director Travis Geisler] knows what I’ve been asking for.
Logano passes Gilliland on the restart.
Spotter: Good job, good job, man. Hopefully we’ll get something out of that.
Logano finished 22nd, which was enough to grant him a spot in the Chase for the Cup. NASCAR is investigating the report, but so far has not found anything.
