New reports say Shanahan may start Cousins instead of RGIII on Sunday

ESPN and Jay Glazer of Fox have reported that Redskins coach Mike Shanahan will start Kirk Cousins as quarterback in Sunday’s game instead of Robert Griffin III. Glazer tweeted: “Ppl inside building are under impression Shanahan is making move at QB to Cousins. If he changes back it’s bc RG3 convinced him otherwise.”

Griffin recently returned from an ACL injury, and some speculate that he came back too soon. However, despite seemingly healthy state right now, Shanahan alluded to a possible quarterback switch during his press conference on Monday.

Griffin and the rest of the team struggled last weekend in the game against the Chiefs, which they lost 45-10. Griffin was benched for the second half of the game, and he commented to Mike Jones of The Washington Post that it was a good decision on Shanahan’s part. “It was tough. I understood. You don’t fight that. As a competitor, you don’t care what’s going on on the field or what the score is of the game. You want to finish the game with your guys. That was tough, but I understood. You still have to sit there and do everything you can to help Kirk Cousins [go]out there to perform, move the ball and score. I thought I would try to do that effectively,” Griffin said.
