Chicago Cubs manager Dale Sveum fired

0

The Chicago Cubs officially announced via twitter that the team has “relieved Dale Sveum of his duties as manager.” Many are not surprised by the news, as the Cubs have had two very unsuccessful seasons. Theo Epstein said that the change in manager is “the best opportunity to achieve the major league environment we seek.”

The team also stated: “We have not yet contacted any candidates or asked permission to speak with any candidates, but that process will begin tomorrow morning.” They hope to have a new manager in place by early November.

The Cubs have not won a postseason game since 2003, and Sveum was hired not long after Theo Epstein became general manager in 2011. Everyone was optimistic that things would improve for the Cubs, since Sveum was successful as an assistant with the Boston Red Sox. However, that hope is long gone, and the team is ready to move on.
