According to a U.S. official, the U.S. government is withholding military aid from Egypt as it decides how it wants to address the situation in Egypt. The official explained Washington is holding back some of the aid while preparing to possibly cut aid in the future. David Carle, a spokesman for Senator Patrick Leahy confirmed his office had been told that the aid had been stopped.
Currently, the amount of military aid the United States gives to Egypt is $1.23 billion. The official also declared the government has made no official decision to stop sending aid to Egypt permanently.
