Millionaires ask Congress for higher taxes

0

A group of about two dozen millionaires marched on Capitol Hill Wednesday to urge Congress to tax them more. “We want to pay more taxes,” said California millionaire Doug Edwards. “If you’re fortunate, and you make more than a million dollars a year, you ought to pay more taxes.” The group of millionaires said they wanted the tax cuts under the Bush administration to expire, and planned to push for lawmakers to reject any deal that doesn’t raise taxes on millionaires.

Republicans are largely opposed to the idea of raising taxes on millionaires, believing it could block business growth. Garrett Gruener, founder of Ask.com, said he does not buy into that argument. “Not once have any of my personal investment decisions been a function of marginal tax rates. We just don’t think about it.”
