Giffords to undergo ‘intensive’ therapy in North Carolina

U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, who was shot in the head January at an Arizona supermarket, arrived Sunday in North Carolina to undergo ‘intensive’ therapy in her continued recovery. The Asheville trip has been planned for several months, and her therapy sessions will extend through November 4. Doctors have called Giffords’ recovery miraculous, from a shooting that left six people dead and 12 others wounded.

Giffords’ health has continued to gradually improve, with Gifford even reading aloud a portion of her upcoming audiobook. The man charged in the shooting, Jaded Loughner, is undergoing mental treatment to determine his capacity to stand trial.
