Actress Emma Watson gave a speech to launch the U.N. initiative HeForShe for gender equality Saturday. Watson was appointed as a U.N. Women goodwill ambassador six months ago, and has since then advocated for full involvement in the movement regardless of gender. In the speech she discusses the gender inequality she has faced, as well as the duty she feels she has to campaign for women’s rights because of the privilege she has in the world. Watson called for equality on social, economic and political terms, and explains that everyone needs to be involved for the benefit of everyone. She asks, “if not me, who? If not now, when?” The HeForShe campaign aims to mobilize one billion boys and men as advocates of change in ending gender inequalities.
