Thousands of residents have been evacuated and more than 1,000 homes have been destroyed in violent wildfires that continue to ravage Texas. At least 57 wildfires have burned the drought-stricken state and the estimated number of homes destroyed is expected to rise as firefighters continue to battle the fire.
“[The fire leaves] pretty powerful visuals of individuals who lost everything,” Texas Gov. Rick Perry said. “The magnitude of these losses are pretty stunning.”
Perry interrupted his campaigning for the G.O.P. presidential nomination to survey communities damaged by the wildfires.
