Tornadoes tear through Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Tennessee, Illinois leaving 13 dead

In the early hours of Wednesday morning, severe weather, which included tornadoes, swept through the Plains states of Nebraska, Kansas, and Missouri. Officials reported 13 people have been killed. On Tuesday night, Gov. Sam Brownback declared a state of emergency for a small town holding 236 people, 20 miles of Topeka, after it was hit by an “apparent tornado.” Bill Beasley of the American Medical Response for Shawnee and Wabaunsee counties said, “It is quite hectic” after nine ambulances were dispatched to the scene.

According to Sheriff Jim Russell, the winter storm created a path of destruction that cut six to seven miles through Taney County, Missouri, damaging homes and businesses. It is reported that this is the first time in a long time that the month of February has seen tornadoes.

Update: Due to the deadly tornadoes that ripped through the Midwest in the early hours of Wednesday Morning, leaving 13 dead, more than 100 people have been reported injured, and businesses, along with 300 homes, have been destroyed.
