Syracuse fires Bernie Fine amid sex abuse allegations

Syracuse University fired assistant men’s basketball coach Bernie Fine, amid allegations of child sexual abuse. Fine was accused earlier this month by former Syracuse ball boy Bobby Davis and his stepbrother, Mike Lang, who both alleged he had molested them. The university fired him Sunday night after a third man stepped forward with accusations. Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim said he believed “the university took the appropriate step” in firing Fine.

Davis claims, in a recorded phone conversation with Fine’s wife in 2002, that Fine loaned him $4000 and then forced him into sexual acts. Davis, now 39, says Fine molested him “hundreds of times” over 16 years, beginning when he was in fifth or sixth grade. Police told Davis a criminal case could not be pursued as the statute of limitations had expired.
