Movie theater shooting suspect charged with 24 counts of murder

James Holmes, the 24-year-old suspect of the Aurora, Colorado movie theater massacre, was charged on Monday with 24 counts of murder in the first-degree; two counts for each of the 12 people killed in the shooting. Half of his murder counts cite “deliberation,” and the other half cites “extreme indifference” to the value of human life.

The former doctoral student was also charged with 116 counts of attempted murder, two for each of 58 wounded victims during the attack. He was lastly charged with one count of felony possession of explosive devices and one count related to the use of an assault weapon, a shotgun, and a handgun during the incident.
