Las Vegas family massacre, 9-year-old report deaths of mother and sister

Authorities in Las Vegas, Nevada have been working through a forensics “nightmare” in a house where police report there is blood in every room after two members of the family were bludgeoned to death and another critically injured. Officials discovered the deaths of a 10-year-old girl and her mother on Monday after the young girl’s 9-year-old brother told school officials that his mother and sister were dead at home. The 10-year-old was sexually assaulted before she was killed. The father, Arturo Martinez, was taken from the home and is in critical condition at a hospital. Police said his injuries were the result of “blunt force trauma.” There was also another child, the age of four, who was left unharmed.

Police have been unable to talk to Martinez and said they are not calling him a suspect or ruling him out. “We don’t know if the father is a suspect or not. We have nothing to suggest that yet. We’re not ruling anybody out,” Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Officer Marcus Martin told ABCNews.com on Tuesday. Martin said police have been working nonstop since the bodies were discovered. “Forensically, it’s been a nightmare. It’s been three days going through that house because there’s no portion of the house that’s not a crime scene. There’s not a room without blood evidence in it,” Martin said. The cause of death for the mother and daughter was blunt force trauma. The 9-year-old boy who reported the deaths and his 4-year-old brother have been taken into child protective services’ custody. They have not been questioned due to the concern of their “mental health.”
