Former C.I.A. agent charged for leaking classified information

On Monday, former C.I.A. agent John Kiriakou was charged with leaking classified information to journalists, which included two names of previous C.I.A. colleagues. Kiriakou was a high-level case agent who worked in Afghanistan and assisted in the capture of senior al Qaeda leaders. As a C.I.A. agent, it is required that all agents with classified information swear and sign an official document stating that anything learned during the course of work that is classified will remain as such.

Kiriakou gave reporters classified information in order to promote his book “The Reluctant Spy,” which could possibly put his former colleagues in future danger.
