Evan Spencer Ebel, who referred to himself as “Evil Evan,” has died as a result of injuries he sustained during a high speed chase and shootout with Texas police. Evan was a paroled Colorado inmate and white supremacist gang member. He was also a suspect in the murder of Colorado prison executive Tom Clements and a pizza delivery man. He opened fired on police in Texas when they pulled him over during a traffic stop on Thursday. He then started a car chase across two Texas counties while continuing to shoot at police. Even after the car was struck by an 18-wheel truck, Ebel emerged from the wreckage and continued to shoot at police. The police returned fire and Ebel was shot down.
Ebel was flown to a hospital in Fort Worth and where he was put on life support. He was pronounced dead today. Police and medical examiners are performing an autopsy on Ebel’s body.
Police are continuing to investigate whether Ebel was involved in the murder of Tom Clements. Evidence has already been found in his car suggesting he is connected to the murder of Nathan Leon, 27, who was killed delivering pizza near Golden, Colorado.
