Eddie Ray Routh’s attorney will seek psychiatric exam

Eddie Ray Routh is facing charges of murdering former Navy SEAl Chris Kyle, author of the best-selling book “American Sniper,” and friend Chad Littlefield. However, he may not even stand trial if a court-appointed psychiatrist determines that he is unfit to do so. Routh’s attorney will submit a request to the court for a psychiatric evaluation of his client. Routh’s other court-appointed attorney pointed out that Routh was released from the Dallas Veterans Administration hospital just two days before the shooting.

Routh has reportedly displayed unstable behavior during his imprisonment. Erath County Sheriff Tommy Bryant said Routh refused to take his medication on Wednesday.
After his arrest, Routh fought with guards in jail, was subdued and placed in restraints. “He’s been on suicide watch ever since he’s been here,” said Bryant. “He hasn’t caused any more problems since then. On Tuesday, he refused to see his attorney and family that came to visit him.”
