Oscar Ramiro Ortega-Hernandez was officially indicted by a grand jury in Washington on Tuesday and faces 17 charges. On November 11, 2011, around 9 p.m., Ortega-Hernandez fired shots at the White House. The fired shots hit the exterior near the second story, which is the residential quarters of the first family. Ortega-Hernandez is a 21-year-old man from Idaho who drove 2,000 miles to the East Coast with the intent to assassinate President Barack Obama, who was out of town at the time.
Ortega-Hernandez was arrested five days later and has since been incarcerated. Criminal reports said that he believes the president is the “anti-Christ” or “the devil” and “the federal government is conspiring against him.” If convicted, he could receive the maximum penalty of life in prison.
