The mistress of an Annapolis man, who tired to hire a hitman to kill his wife, is receiving a sentence of 18 months in jail for her contributions to the plot.

Cynthia Mills entered an Alford plea for conspiracy to commit murder, acknowledging her innocence while prosecutors have enough evidence to convict her.

Mills became involved in the plot when her lover Wendell Mansel was arrested in August for hiring an undercover police officer posing as a hitman to kill his wife. Investigators later determined that Mills and Mansel were having an affair.

According to police, Mills provided money and helped plan the scheme. Mansel has pleaded guilty and is scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 4th.
