UMD may require students to take class on sexual assault

0

The University of Maryland may soon require all freshmen to take a one-hour class on sexual assault. Officials voted last week to move the proposal forward, although there are several further steps before it comes to fruition. Sexual assaults are particularly common on college campuses, with some statistics showing as many as 1 in 4 college women having been victims of sexual assault or attempted sexual assault. Many cases go unreported.

Supporters of making this class mandatory say it will help educate students on the often touchy subject, and help clear up confusion over sexual assaults when drinking or drugs are involved.
