The final fist pump

Wednesday’s ACC Basketball game caused University of Maryland students to run into the Comcast Center to get seats closet to the court, now named after former coach Gary Williams, who would be honored before the start of the game. The energy was also heightened because they were playing against their rivals, the Duke Blue Devils.

George Wallace, who works for WTOP, said he remembers interviewing Williams at the school’s radio station, WMUC Radio, before every Maryland basketball game and says that he “learned a lot during his time with him.” Williams gave time to students because he knew what it meant to the school radio station. Before the tip off, Wallace reported that there was a three minute video dedicated to the coach and the crowd gave “deafening” cheers when Williams appeared on the court to give one last fist pump. The former coach gave a thanking speech and will forever be honored by the University of Maryland for taking the basketball team to two Final Fours and winning a National Championship.
