Montgomery County in Maryland continues to raise its taxes as the burden deepens on its residents. Residents in the Maryland county will pay 40 percent more taxes next year than they did ten years ago, the Examiner reports. Since 2004, families receiving $150,000 have seen income taxes raise more than 3 percent, compared to Fairfax County, where there have been no tax hikes.
The Examiner also reports Montgomery County has seen a 20 percent rise in its sales tax rate and a 100 percent rise in its cigarette tax. By 2014, the county is expecting to see a 50 percent tax increase on its beer.
