Senate passes bill for illegal immigrants

On Tuesday, the Maryland Senate passed a bill that allows illegal immigrants to obtain a driver’s license. The bill was passed in a 29-18 vote and now moves to the House of Delegates to be considered.

If the bill passes, it would override Maryland’s previous law of undocumented persons getting rid of their licenses by 2015. Currently, illegal immigrants are granted with second-tier licenses.

Supporters of the bill claim roads will be safer if undocumented persons can obtain a driver’s license. Opponents believe the bill will provide a new harbor for illegal immigrants.
