The bid-deadline for the proposed Purple Line between Montgomery and Prince George’s County has been delayed by two months by the Maryland Transit Authority. The deadline has been moved to March 12 to allow Governor-elect Larry Hogan adequate time in office to decide on the project. The project will cost an estimated $2.45 billion. The bid process is complicated by the state’s promise to pay up to $2 million for each rejected bid, possibly resulting in a cost of an additional $8 million in stipends if all four are rejected. If the project is continued by Hogan’s decision, the delay will not effect the construction schedule, conditionally set to begin in 2015.
