Maryland’s largest casino, Maryland Live!, generated $28.5 million in gross revenue during its opening month in June. The population at Arundel Mills mall was twice that of Maryland’s two previously opened gaming venues combined. Maryland Lottery Director Stephen Martino said the numbers from the new casino, which opened to overflow crowds and traffic congestion on June 6, was “extremely strong.” Martino, whose agency regulates Maryland’s slots program, approved by voters in 2008, said, “You could tell there was palpable excitement at the facility if you were there on opening night.”
Officials from the Cordish Cos., which owns and operates the Anne Arundel County venue, said more than 500,000 people visited Maryland Live! during its first 24 days of operation. “The results are right in line with projections,” said Joe Weinberg, managing partner with Cordish.
