Disgraced county exec Leopold found guilty of misconduct

John Leopold, the disgraced chief executive of Anne Arundel County in Maryland was charged on Tuesday with misconduct in office. He has been suspended from his position after a judge found him guilty of using his security detail for campaign purposes and for forcing his secretary to empty his urine catheter bag up to three times a day for the better part of a year. His security team was used to put up campaign signs, pick up checks, and write up informational packets on Leopold’s political opponents while on duty as police officers. Requiring a secretary to perform the duties of a nurse was described by Judge Dennis Sweeney as overstepping the bounds of an employer/employee relationship.

The Anne Arundel County Council will meet next week to vote for Leopold’s dismissal from office.
