Prince George’s County Councilmember Karen Toles has been issued another citation, after she was stopped on the Beltway a few weeks ago by a Prince George’s County police officer. The Maryland Councilmember originally received a $90 ticket for an unsafe lane change on Feb. 22. On Tuesday, Prince George’s County Police Chief Mark McGaw personally delivered Toles a citation, which entails a $510 fine and up to six points on her license for reckless driving. McGaw said, “It’s a serious offense. It’s willful wanton disregard for safety in her driving.”

On Feb. 22, when Toles was pulled over for speeding, a review panel reported that the police officer acted appropriately for not issuing her a citation for speeding; however, the panel said a second citation was warranted on Tuesday. “The officer on the scene did not make a mistake he did an outstanding job. But as we looked at all the evidence, the recommendation that came from the ERP was reckless driving and that’s what she was issued today,” McGaw said.
