Emergency repairs are being made to the Fort McHenry Tunnel on Interstate 95 underneath the Baltimore Harbor. The northbound right tube of the tunnel was shut down for most of Sunday due to a blockage that was found Saturday night. Construction crews reopened the tube briefly for Monday’s morning rush hour, but are going to close it again between 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Tamory Winfield, a spokesman for the Maryland Transportation Authority, stated that the tube likely will be closed again after evening rush hour Monday, starting around 6:30 p.m. He added that the workers hope to finish the repairs by Tuesday morning. It is unclear what caused the blockage, and is considered to be a rare event.
