Producers have announced that visual artist and filmmaker Sam Taylor-Johnson will be directing a movie version of the erotic bestseller “Fifty Shades of Grey”.

Taylor-Johnson directed the 2009 biopic of John Lennon titled “Nowhere Boy”. She promises to “honor the power” of the book while directing it. The book itself has sold millions of copies and has inspired many imitators.

The announcement was made by Universal Pictures and Focus Features on Wednesday. The 46-year-old is one of Britain’s most well known visual artists. Her work includes a video portrayal of David Beckham sleeping, which currently hangs in London’s National Portrait Gallery. She also created “Crying Men”, a compilation of celebrity tears.
