“American Idol” winner Phillip Phillips underwent a six and a half hour surgery Thursday to remove several kidney stones. The 21-year-old guitar player was plagued by serious kidney problems during the singing contest. His excruciating pain prevented him from participating in various “Idol” duties, including the weekly Ford music video shoots and twice almost caused him to drop out of “Idol.” According to his rep, the surgery went well. As tour organizations said earlier this week, the Georgia star and 11th “Idol” winner will be ready for the tour starting July 6.
