A musical version of the story about an overbearing and pompous weather forecaster forced to re-live the same day over and over is slated to premiere on Broadway in 2017. The four creators of the hit production “Matilda the Musical” (director Matthew Warchus, composer Tim Minchin, choreographer Peter Darling and set and costume design by Rob Howell) will be heavily involved with the upcoming project. The story will be based on the hit 1993 film that starred Bill Murray, Andie MacDowell and Chris Elliot. The screenplay was written by Danny Rubin and Harold Ramis. It will be produced by Whistle Pig Productions, Scott Rudin and Columbia Live Stage. No casting information was announced. Previews will start in January 2017. On his blog, Minchin stated that the musical is going to be both instantly recognizable, and entirely different at the same time.
