Fans of the highly admired book trilogy, “The Hunger Games,” came together on Wednesday night at a Barnes & Noble book store in Bethesda, Md. “The Hunger Games,” reminiscent of “Harry Potter” and “Twilight” mania, are the latest bestsellers, translated to the big screen. The fans, many of them in resemblance of the characters from the books, took part in trivia and costume contests for prizes, enjoyed free refreshments, and picked up temporary tattoos.

An 11-year-old girl named Sophie, who was dressed as the book’s main character Katniss, said, “I love the book. I’m so excited for the movie. It’s just one of my favorite things in the whole wide world.” “(It’s) one of the best books I’ve read. I must say it’s even better than ‘Twilight’,” said an 18-year-old Azhar. The movie is based on the first book of the three book series. Barnes & Noble’s Anthony Gambone said, “The books are selling very well. The kids are reading similar to the ‘Harry Potter’ phenomenon.” Gambone was dressed as President Snow, portrayed in the film by Donald Sutherland. The movie premiers on Friday morning at 12:00 a.m.
