Jazz singer Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr. was the winner of this year’s “America’s Got Talent,” securing the $1 million prize and the headlining Las Vegas act. The West Virginia native, who had previous washed cars for a living, beat out three other hopeful teams—glow-in-the-dark dancers Team iLuminate, the dance group Silhouettes and music group Poplyfe.
Murphy was overwhelmed by the announcement, and has told PEOPLE he plans to use his earnings to invest in his children’s future.
