French and British leaders pledge support for Libya

0

British Prime Minister David Cameron and French President Nicholas Sarkozy pledged Thursday that they would aid Libya’s revolution, even as far as offering help to capture Moammar Gadhafi. NATO’s stated mission is to protect civilians, but the French and British leaders are a step further, stating that they stand behind the National Transitional Council.

Since the uprising, Cameron and Sarkozy are the two most senior Western leaders to visit Libya. Both countries played pivotal roles in the aerial bombing campaign against Gadhafi. Among the aid pledged by Cameron is $1 million for clearing landmines and $1.5 million for disposing of dangerous weaponry.
