Starbucks’ new additions, beer, wine to select coffee shops

Starbucks is preparing to introduce more feel good drinks to its customers. The coffee giant is ready to expand its customer base and net worth by adding beer and wine to selected Starbucks menus in southern California. The company plans to add alcohol to four to six remodeled stores in the region by the end of the year as well as a small number of locations in Chicago and Atlanta.

Starbucks tested the alcohol theory in its hometown of Seattle, Wash. in 2010 as well as Portland, Ore. The selected stores offer beers for $5 and glasses of wine for $7 to $9. A few consumers have opposed to the introduction of alcohol. A police officer in Valencia, Calif., Doug Tanaka said, “If I wanted a beer, I’d go to a bar. I bring my grandkids in here. I don’t want to have to deal with a drunk if I’m having coffee.” Sean Peterson, an engineer for the California Department of Transportation said, “When I come to Starbucks, alcohol is not what I’m thinking about.”
