Amazon unveils Kindle Fire

In a tablet market dominated by Apple’s iPad, Amazon unveiled the new Kindle Fire. Though it does not offer all the features of the iPad, the Kindle Fire has the major draw of being $199, $300 cheaper than the lowest-priced iPad. The screen size is smaller than the iPad, which can be a draw or a deterrent for consumers comparing the two, and the Fire is lighter.

The Kindle Fire is designed to run apps from the Android market. At the moment, the model to be released in mid-November runs on Wi-Fi only. In spite of the more limited features, the Kindle Fire is expected to create stiff competition in the tablet market.
