The Loudoun County affordable housing voucher waitlist opens Thursday morning after more than a decade at 8:30 a.m., but residents began forming a line overnight in hopes of securing a spot on the waitlist. “The HCV Program is a rental subsidy program funded by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The program pays a portion of participants’ monthly rent based on household income,” per the Loudoun County website.

The applications are considered based on when they are received. To be eligible, an applicant’s household income must be at or below 50% of the area median income. Loudoun County will close the waitlist once it is determined that the last applicants would have to wait at least three years before receiving aid, the limit is projected to be 300 preliminary applications.
