Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark, repeatedly questioned TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew about his citizenship during a hearing on child safety online on Wednesday. The hearing included the CEOs of Meta, X, Discord, and Snap alongside Chew.
“Have you ever been a member of the Chinese Communist Party?” asked Cotton.
“Senator, I’m Singaporean,” replied Chew.
“Have you ever been associated or affiliated with the Chinese Communist Party?” asked Cotton.
“No, Senator. Again, I’m Singaporean,” replied Chew.
