Drew Mendelow, 17, of Gaithersburg, Maryland is waiting for approval from the Food and Drug Administration on his app, T1D1, that helps diabetics keep track of their blood sugar and insulin doses. Mendelow created the app in 2020 after he was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. The app had been downloaded more than 40,000 times until the Food and Drug Administration took the app down because it had not received clearance.

In order to receive clearance, Mendelow needs to complete a human factor’s trial. “My whole motto with the app is I want to keep it free without any ads,” said Mendelow. “I don’t want to benefit at all off of it, and this is solely purposed to help other people with Type 1 diabetes.” You can donate to his campaign here.
