Donald Trump wants to end birthright citizenship for children of illegal immigrants

During an interview on NBC, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said he would try to abolish the citizenship rights of children born to illegal immigrants in the U.S. This right has been protected by the 14th amendment since 1868. Repealing the amendment’s citizenship clause would require the votes of two-thirds of both houses of Congress and support from three fourths of the nation’s state legislatures. Republicans in Congress have repeatedly tried and failed to pass bills ending birthright citizenship since 2011. Some conservatives believe this could be achieved without changing the Constitution
