In recognition of ADHD Awareness Month, CHADD of Northern Virginia and the District of Columbia and the ADHD Resource Group of Northern Virginia, two nonprofit organizations serving the ADHD community, are working together to present an informative mini-conference on Saturday, October 28, 2017, “ADHD and Screen Time: From Problems to Solutions”. Hosted by Commonwealth Academy from 8:30am to 12:45pm, expert speakers will discuss balancing the benefits of technological advancements with the challenges of misuse and Internet addiction.Whether they’re parents concerned about their children, adults unable to “unplug”, or spouses feeling like they’ve been replaced by electronics, “too much screen time” is a troubling issue affecting many families in our community, especially those who have members with an ADHD diagnosis. The mini-conference supports the theme of 2017 ADHD Awareness Month, “Knowing is Better: ADHD Through the Life Span”. The focus of this event will be to provide information, solutions, and resources to parents of children, teens, and young adults; adults; and ADHD professionals who treat those suffering from gaming and other screen time addictions. Keynote Speaker, Edward Spector, Psy.D., will talk about “The Healthy Use of Technology”, including how to recognize when excessive use can be an attempt to cope with significant psychological problems such as ADHD, depression, anxiety, or social skill deficits.
