Archaeologists discover early colonial leaders’ remains in Jamestown

Archaeologists recently identified the remains of four early colonial leaders near the altar of America’s historic Jamestown Anglican church in Virginia. Along with the human remains, they also found several artifacts, including a staff and a Catholic container for holy relics. The remains were uncovered in 2013, but the archaeologists wanted to identify them before announcing the discovery to the public. The people identified include Jamestown’s first Anglican minister, two captains, and a knight. In addition to the leaders’ remains, there were three others who likely died of disease.
