Officer kills man in Greenbelt standoff
According to police, a man was shot dead in his Greenbelt home after he barricaded himself in his apartment and fired gunshots off his balcony. Greenbelt police said they received a phone call at around 10:30 p.m. about a man shooting a gun near the 6200 block of Springhill Court. After the man fired at officers, Prince George’s County tactical force was called and shot the man. The man was taken to a hospital and was later pronounced dead.

Teacher charged with soliciting sex from former 13-year-old student from VA
A North Carolina middle school teacher has been charged with attempting to have sex with a 13-year-old boy from Northern Virginia. Kathleen Capitano, 24, met the boy when she was interning at Coates Elementary in Herndon during the 2014-2015 school year. “She met a 12-year-old student at Coates and a physical relationship began between the two of them,” says Fairfax County police spokesman Don Goddart. Capitano was arrested on Saturday at a Herndon hotel. The boy’s parents were notified beforehand. Capitano has been placed on paid leave from her job, according to Brunswick County schools spokeswoman Jessica Swencki. At an arraignment on Monday, a judge decided Capitano would be held without bond.

Co-founders of Ben and Jerry’s arrested at the U.S Capitol
On Monday Ben and Jerry’s co-founders were arrested with the other 300 people who took part of the “Democracy Awakening” protests. Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield created an ice cream named in honor of Senator Bernie Sanders. The ice cream is called “Bernie’s Yearning.” “Democracy Awakening,” which is closely aligned with the “Democracy Spring” protests earlier this month, mobilized protesters from April 16-18 to “protect voting rights, get big money out of politics and demand a fair hearing and an up or down vote on President Obama’s Supreme Court nominee,” its website said.

Doris Roberts dies at 90, ‘Everybody Loves Raymond’ star
Doris Roberts has died overnight in her sleep, according spokeswoman Janet Daily. Roberts is best known for her role as Raymond’s mother in the CBS sitcom “Everybody Loves Raymond.” Phil Rosenthal, the sitcom’s creator, called her “a wonderful, funny, indelible actress and friend” on Twitter. Roberts, who won four Emmy Awards for role as Marie Barone on the show, also received a total of seven nominations for best supporting actress for the sitcom. CBS said in a statement that Roberts “will be remembered for lighting up every room she walked into with an unparalleled combination of energy, humor, warmth and even a little bit of grit.”

Dozens killed in Kabul as Taliban attack
On Tuesday morning an explosion shook the Afghan capital of Kabul. The Afghan Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.”First a suicide bomber blew up his explosives-laden lorry on the gate of the department and then other armed attackers went in and started shooting on the rest of the enemies,” the statement said. Kabul’s police chief said at least 28 people are dead with 300 more wounded.
