DC teen accused in Metro killing faces new murder charges

District police say 17-year-old Maurice Bellamy has been charged with first degree murder in the death of 30-year-old Arthur Baldwin. Baldwin was murdered on Dec. 15. He was a uniformed Secret Service officer who was suspended from duty after being charged in a domestic dispute. Bellamy was already jailed in the death of 15-year-old Davonte Washington who was murdered at the Deanwood Metro station on March 26.

Missing firefighter found dead with suicide note

On Wednesday fire officials said that missing Fairfax County firefighter Nicole Clardy Mittendorff called in sick before she was reported missing. The 31-year-old from Woodbridge telephoned that she was ill last Wednesday.  On Thursday, her body was found with a suicide note in Shenandoah National Park near the Whiteoak Canyon Trail parking area. The last known communication of Mittendorff was a text to her father. Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller has not said whether anything found in Mittendorff’s cream-colored Mini Cooper would indicate where she was heading, or what could have happened to her. State police had taken over 100 tips from the public since the weekend, before the body was found.

Harriet Tubman to appear on the $20 bill

The $20 bill will have a makeover when the 7th president of the United States will be replaced by Harriet Tubman.  Tubman is the abolitionist who used the underground railroad to free slaves and take them to the North. Tubman now joins a group of icons who have their portraits on U.S. currency: George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and Benjamin Franklin. Tubman will now become the first African-American and first women in 100 years to be depicted on currency.

Cruz says Trump will not get 1,237 delegates

On Wednesday, Ted Cruz said that no candidate will win the 1,237 delegates needed for a first ballot clinch for the GOP’s nomination. All of this came after Donald Trump won the New York primary Wednesday. Hillary Clinton won on the Democratic side. “We are headed to a contested convention. At this point, nobody is getting 1,237,” Cruz told Philadelphia radio host Chris Stigall on Wednesday morning. “Donald is going to talk all the time about other folks not getting to 1,237. He’s not getting there, either.”

Wrestler Chyna dead at 45

Joan Laurer, known as the “ninth wonder of the world” was found dead at her California home on Wednesday. Laurer, 45, was found dead in her apartment after a friend went to check on her, found her unresponsive and immediately called police. “It is with deep sadness to inform you that we lost a true icon, a real life superhero. Joanie Laurer aka Chyna, the 9th wonder of the world, has passed away,” said a post on her website.
