Comedian Jerry Lewis, who has served as the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s national chairman since the early 1950s, will reportedly not appear on this year’s Labor Day telethon as host and has also announced that he is stepping down as chairman of the non-profit association. The 85-year-old has been batting a devastating back condition, heart issues and the lung disease pulmonary fibrosis though reasons for his absence from this year’s telethon are unknown. Lewis announced his desire to retire as host in May, but planned to make this Labor Day his last appearance. He also expressed in May his desire to remain chairman.
