Maryland’s new decriminalization of marijuana possession has come into effect today, October 1. Under this law, first offense possession of small amounts of the material (less than 10 grams) will no longer result in criminal charges, but with a civil citation and a fine. The possession of drug paraphernalia is still a criminal offense. This law is joined by others that came into effect today, which can be seen explained in a Washington Post article here . A new D.C. law that imposes an additional sales tax on exercise facilities and health clubs is being called the “yoga tax,” as yoga studios are complaining that they feel they should not be included in the category.
