Harriet Tubman, new addition to the D.C. wax museum

0

Students from the District’s Harriet Tubman Elementary School will visit The President’s Gallery by Madame Tussauds on Tuesday to view the unveiled wax figure of Harriet Tubman. Tubman was born into slavery on Maryland’s Eastern Shore and escaped in 1849. After her escape, she led hundreds of slaves into freedom through the Underground Railroad and became a heroic figure in American history.

Charles E.T. Ross, Tubman’s great-great-great nephew, and Valery Ross Manokey, Tubman’s great-great niece, will also visit the museum on Tuesday to witness their aunt’s wax figure join a collection of presidents and historical figures. The artists from Madame Tussauds rely on photographs, historical accounts, and paintings to create each new lifelike wax figure.
