Elected officials in D.C. receive subpoenas from federal grand jury

Elected officials in the nation’s capital have received federal grand jury subpoenas requesting documents relevant to campaign contributions from a prominent political donor. The Associated Press received confirmation, regarding the subpoenas, from a D.C. Council employee who remains anonymous and reported that multiple elected officials had received them.

The Associated Press was able to obtain a copy of the subpoena, which ask for “all documents referring or relating to Jeffrey Thompson” and his firms and associates, dating back to 2003. Thompson has given money to most of the District’s top elected officials, including Council Chairman Kwame Brown and Mayor Vincent Gray. Thompson, an accountant, owns the city’s largest Medicaid contractor. Federal authorities searched his home and office earlier this month.
