Maryland to honor Williams with basketball court

The University of Maryland will honor former head coach Gary Williams by naming a basketball court after him. Williams, who had a 461-252 record, retired in May after 22 years as coach. School President Wallace D. Loh described Williams as “a faithful alumnus, a highly successful and iconic figure in men’s college basketball across the nation, a fierce competitor and a tireless fundraiser on behalf of student scholarships.”

The dedication ceremony will take place on Dec. 9 at the Comcast Center. Williams holds the record for most games won, and helped The Terps win the national championship in 2002.
