Occupy ‘day of action’ draws huge crowds

Occupy Wall Street demonstrators converged in New York City and nationwide Thursday to mark a “mass day of action” on the two-month anniversary of the movement. Over 200 people were arrested in New York, with dozens more nationwide. There was some concern from authorities that demonstrators might try to interrupt the New York Stock Exchange, prompting police to cordon off the area and require identification from workers.

At least seven police officers were injured Thursday. The number of demonstrators injured is unknown. A number of clashes between police and demonstrators marked the day’s events, but by evening the numbers swelled as demonstrators made their way to Foley Square and the Brooklyn Bridge. The Brooklyn Bridge march was largely peaceful in nature, and drew as many as 20,000 protesters.
